Der Untergang der Pamir

The German training ship Pamir was thought to be unsinkable. But on 21 September 1957, after a dramatic struggle in the ferocious Atlantic, buffeted by hurricane Carrie, the vessel capsized. The causes of this maritime tragedy continue to fuel speculation to this day. Director Kaspar Heidelbach tells the gripping tale with drama and emotion in this two-part film. First officer Ewald and boatswain Acki, fearing catastrophe, are on the verge of mutiny against Captain Lewerenz. Only six crew members survive. 80 seamen drown. Their story was filmed on original locations in the Canary Islands, Cuxhaven, Hamburg, Lübeck and Malta.
