Reconstruction

Alex meets Aimeé, wife of elderly writer August. The two become lovers and, even though they hardly know each other, decide to elope. The plot of Christoffer Boe’s fascinating debut film is simplicity itself – and complex, too. The cinematic narrative leaves the love triangle completely open, flexible and varied. For instance, right at the start, when a man turns a corner on the street, a narrator interrupts, retouches, commentates – and lets the cinematic experiment start anew. Is the love affair between Alex und Aimeé just a figment of author August’s imagination? The riddle remains unsolved. Instead, Christoffer Boe wallows in atmospheric images and evocative music, conjuring up an almost euphoric mood that has had critics howling with delight. Winner of the Caméra d’Or at Cannes, “Reconstruction” is an example of Nordisk Film’s constant promotion of new talent throughout its hundred-year history.
