Drømmen

Fünen, summer of 1969: 13-year-old Frits already has enough on his plate when his father is admitted to a psychiatric unit and he has to help out on his parents’ farm. At his new school he gets on the wrong side of draconian and educationally unenlightened headmaster Lindum-Svendsen, who has no compunctions about hitting out at those who don’t toe the line. But Frits is having none of it. Emboldened by TV coverage of the US protest movement and Martin Luther King’s speeches, Frits rebels against the system, with the support of his new music teacher Freddie. “We Shall Overcome” is Denmark's most successful film of 2006. And no wonder. This film, the third by Niels Arden Oplev (“Portland”), has it all: superbly cast, visually compelling and highly entertaining, with an uplifting storyline of liberation from oppression. And with an outstanding performance from Anders W. Berthelsen (“Mifune”, “Italian for Beginners”) as hippie teacher Freddie.
