Bortglömda

Ania and Gosia: two young girls growing up in poverty in the Polish provinces. Both go to Warsaw to improve their situation. But whereas Anja is sent to the city against her will to earn money for her starving family, Gosia goes there of her own accord to finance an operation for her sick mother. Starting a new life in a strange city is not easy for either of them. Both try in their own way to survive. Director Agnieszka Lukasiak describes her first major success as a “dramamentary”, blending a documentary background with a fictitious storyline. Technically, Lukasiak combines traditional cinematic forms of expression with the immediacy of the documentary in a highly distinctive style to paint a picture of Eastern European life today, as exemplified by the moving stories of two individuals.
