Farväl Falkenberg

Five friends since early childhood spend their last summer together. They have left school and are now on the threshold of adulthood – but the young men find it hard to leave their Falkenberg home. David wants to be a child forever. Holger doesn’t see why he should leave the comfort of his parental home. John is permanently grumpy and has no interest in starting a new life. Jesper wanders aimlessly around Falkenberg. Only Jörgen has a fresh start in mind, with his Bed & Breakfast company – based in Falkenberg, of course. “Falkenberg Farewell” is a deeply personal declaration of love for a little Swedish seaside town. Director Jesper Ganslandt takes a melancholy and emotive look at his own childhood, portraying the people who have a place in his heart. But he avoids the pitfalls of cloying sentimentality. In this astute portrait of a generation of slackers and non-launchers, the immediacy of the camerawork and ad-hoc scenes intensely convey a painful sense of disorientation and fear of adult responsibility.
