Opening night – The 61st Nordische Filmtage Lübeck shows “Swoon”

October 2, 2019. On October 29, 2019, the 61st Nordische Filmtage Lübeck will open with the German premiere of the Swedish film “Swoon” (orig: Eld och Lågor, 2019) directed by Måns Mårlind and Björn Stein. With “Swoon”, the directors of “Midnight Sun” (2016) and co-authors of the internationally acclaimed series “Bron/Broen” (“The Bridge”) present a visually spectacular, romantic, and entertaining film with magical musical elements and surprising special effects. “Swoon” takes us back to 1940s Stockholm, telling a touching Romeo and Juliet story, based on real events, set in the milieu of a fun fair. The film features a brilliant cast headed by newcomers Frida Gustavsson and Albin Grenholm in the top roles. Additional roles are played by Pernilla August and Robert Gustafsson (of “The 100-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared”). The directors and additional guests will attend the screening. The film was produced by Kristina Åberg (Atmo AB, Sweden), World sales are handled by TrustNordisk ApS.

““Swoon” is a magnificent way to open th 61st festival”, says Linde Fröhlich, the artistic director of the Nordische Filmtage Lübeck, “the film is as colourful and diverse as the slate of films we welcome people to see at the festival”.

A summary of the film: Stockholm, 1940. In the Djurgården neighbourhood, rival fun fairs Nöjesfältet and Gröna Lund sit right next to other. It is not just Europe that is gripped by war, the two carnival families Lindgren and Nilsson have long been sworn enemies. But in the midst of the tumult of the amusements, the families’ children, John Lindgren and Ninni Nilsson fall in love. The family feud puts their love and loyalty to a severe test, but the two are quite simply made for each other. Although Gröna Lund is a real amusement park in Stockholm, very few people know the true story behind the fair.

The 61st Nordische Filmtage, presented by the Hanseatic city of Lübeck, will be held from October 29 to November 3, 2019. A press conference to announce the complete programme will take place on October 17, 2019. Advance ticket sales begin on October 26, 2019.
