The Nordische Filmtage Lübeck will usher in its 60th year with the German premiere of the Estonian film “The Little Comrade” (Seltsimees laps) by Moonika Siimets on October 30, 2018 at 7:30 pm.This marks the first time in the history of the renowned festival that the opening night film will be from a Baltic State. In her first narrative film, director Moonika Siimets tells the story of six-year-old Leelo, living in Estonia in the 1950s. After her mother is taken away, the young girl tries to figure out the difference between good and evil amid the constraints of the Stalinist regime. More

For the 60th anniversary year of the Nordische Filmtage Lübeck (Oct. 30 – Nov. 4, 2018), in which the Hanseatic League city of Lübeck is celebrating its 875th jubilee, the Retrospective is dedicated to “overseas relations”, as well as the Baltic Sea and its port cities. The narrative and documentary films, most made before the turn of the millennium, are stories of ship journeys and ferries, merchant vessels and tourist trips, but also inevitably of martial conflicts and refugee movement in the 20th century. In addition to maritime subjects, they also examine daily life ashore – loading and unloading, love and work, port romances and reality. More

At the podium were the two festival directors Linde Fröhlich (artistic director) and Florian Vollmers (managing director), alongside Lübeck’s culture senator Kathrin Weiher, Lübeck, and curators Jörg Schöning (Retrospective) and Ralph Heinsohn (360° Films/Immersive Media), to provide a first look at the anniversary programme and introduce the festival’s new elements. In 2018, the NFL are celebrating their 60th year. In honour of the anniversary, the festival is starting a day early, on Tuesday, October 30. From then until November 4, 2018, visitors can enjoy six days of the newest highlights and innovative cinema from the Scandinavian and Baltic countries as well as northern Germany, with a focus on Schleswig-Holstein and Hamburg.
