The 59th Nordic Film Days Lübeck heads into the festival with strong partners and sponsors

Lübeck, Nov. 01, 2017.The 59th Nordic Film Days Lübeck begins today with a five-day festival of 195 films – making it the largest festival outside Scandinavia for current films from the Nordic and Baltic countries and northern Germany.

The festival is presented by the city of Lübeck and supported financially by the state of Schleswig-HolsteinCreative Europe MEDIA and the POSSEHL foundation. The main sponsors are the Radisson Blu Senator Hotel Lübeck and the CineStar Group. The festival is also supported by STAWAG, partner of the Lübeck public utilities authority, LYNET, AVIS, SG MEDIENTECHNIK, avt plus media service, the Friends of the Nordic Film Days Lübeck, Tallink Silja, and CITTI-PARK.

The festival prizes are endowed by broadcaster NDR and the Lübecker Nachrichten newspaper, also important media partners to the Film Days, the Gemeinnützige Sparkassenstiftung (regional savings bank foundation) of Lübeck, the Lübeck-Lauenburg Protestant Lutheran Church District, the Lübeck trade unions, the CineStar group, and the Radisson Blu Senator Hotel Lübeck. The main prize for the raffle accompanying the audience prize awarded by the Lübecker Nachrichten will be provided by the Tallink Silja Line.

The four festival cinemas where audiences can enjoy the numerous screenings are the CineStar Filmpalast Stadthalle, the KolosseumKino Koki, and the CineStar Filmhaus. Additional support for NFL projects comes from the Wessel foundation, for the school programme, and the Lübeck public utilities as sponsor of the 360° Fulldome cinema. The Filmforum and the “Lübeck Meetings” are supported by the Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein film commission, while the German Federation of Film Clubs for Children and Young People (BJF) supports the festival’s youth projects.

The Nordic Film Days Lübeck will open today, November 1, 2017 at 7:00 pm in the CineStar Filmpalast Stadthalle with the German premiere of “Beyond Dreams” (Dröm vidare / Träum’ weiter, dir: Rojda Sekersöz), a Swedish production that eksystent distribution will release in Germany in spring 2018.  Guests at the gala screening will include the director Rojda Sekersöz, actor Evin Ahmad, producer Annika Hellström, as well as Monika Kijas representing German distributor eksystent (theatrical release: spring 2018). The opening night film was produced by 2afilm AB.

Other guests on opening night include Dr Oliver Grundei, representing Schleswig-Holstein's ministry of science and culture; Bernd Saxe, mayor of Lübeck; lord mayor Gabriele Schopenhauer, Kathrin Weiher, senator for culture, education and schools, as well as the honorary consuls of Denmark and Norway.
