Lübeck, Nov. 9, 2015. With audiences continually increasing in recent years, the 57th Nordic Film Days Lübeck (Nov. 4 – 8, 2015) broke its own record this year, with attendance figures reaching 30,500. Yesterday was the final day of the NFL, presented by the Hanseatic city-state of Lübeck, and the two festival directors Linde Fröhlich (artistic director) and Christian Modersbach (managing director) were very upbeat about this year's festival. “We had many high-quality films on the programme; films that audiences enjoyed and which opened up them up to new points of view. And Lübeck residents may also have gotten a new outlook on their city, including the refugee situation. We’re especially pleased about the young NDR Film Prize winner and the high production values of his film. We had a lot of fun bringing people together, the way the films and events of the Nordic Film Days do.”
Enthusiastic 2015 audiences were once again taken with the films from Scandinavia, the Baltic region and Schleswig-Holstein/Hamburg. They had 180 films to choose from, screening in three festival movie theatres, alongside a myriad of events throughout the city, including in several Lübeck churches. The "crisis cuisine" side-bar was particularly well received; on three of the festival days, it served up regional dishes from global crisis areas, providing a forum for intercultural encounters between migrants, Lübeck residents and festival audiences.
The Baltic city played host this year to some 780 industry professionals and press, as well as 200 filmmakers. The audiences of film fans participated enthusiastically in discussions with festival guests and interest was high in filling out ballots for the audience prize.
The Nordic Film Days Lübeck awards a total of eight prizes; the highest endowed of them, at 12,500 euros, is the NDR Film Prize, which this year went to the Norwegian Film “Returning Home” (“Å vende tilbake") directed by Henrik Martin Dahlsbakken.
The NFL’s two media partners, NDR television and the Lübecker Nachrichten newspaper, profiled the festival in numerous reports and a wide range of coverage.
Save the date: The 2016 Nordic Film Days Lübeck will run from November 2 – 6, 2016.
