Lübeck, Oct. 5, 2015. In support of the special importance of documentary films to the NFL festival and to provide a forum for professional dialogue, the 57th Nordic Film Days Lübeck (Nov. 4 – 8, 2015) is offering a master class with Danish director Camilla Nielsson entitled “Compelling Documentation” on November 6, 2015 in Lübeck. An international round table to discuss the subject of Audience Engagement – needs and demands in the digital age. New challenges for filmmakers and distributors will be held on the afternoon of the same day.Players from various sectors of the film industry, from production to theatrical distribution, will talk about the role the various professions in the filmmaking and distribution process need to play in keeping audiences engaged.
In her prizewinning film DEMOCRATS, director Camilla Nielsson documented the dashed hopes and political intrigue during the protracted negotiations surrounding Zimbabwe's new constitution in 2013. The director succeeded in penetrating deep into the country’s political power structures and inducing the protagonists to speak with remarkable candidness. Her approach makes her an ideal discussion partner for both colleagues and students of documentary film.
The MASTER CLASS is a cooperative venture with the Filmwerkstatt Kiel, the FFHSH Hamburg/Schleswig-Holstein film subsidy organisation and the German Trade Union Confederation (DGB, southeast Schleswig-Holstein regional arm). The events will be held at the DGB centre in Lübeck. Since 1991, the trade unions based in Lübeck have awarded the documentary film prize at the Nordic Film Days Lübeck. Camilla Nielsson’s film DEMOCRATS will screen at the festival on Nov. 5 and 6, 2015.
AUDIENCE ENGAGEMENT: Changes in the way audiences access and experience films have challenged the idea of a homogeneous audience for any given film. Driven by the development of new delivery technology, there has been an evolution to new, fragmented audiences that are no longer passive consumers, but are becoming demanding target groups. These issues will be discussed by experts such as Michael Gubbins (Sampomedia, GB), Øistein Refseth (MER Film, NO), Matthias Elwardt (Abaton Kino, DE) and Malte Grunert (Amusement Park, DE).
The panel will be moderated by Kristine Knudsen (K&S Medienmanufaktur, NO/DE).
The panel is presented in cooperation with Creative Europe Desk Hamburg and the FFHSH Hamburg/Schleswig-Holstein film subsidy organisation.
