Zacharias is a teenager when he first learns about his parents’ early years in Germany, before he was born – and about his father’s pretrial detention and deportation to Algeria. He wants to find out more to understand how his parents’ story affects his own. So he sets out to search for clues with his camera, but his father cannot talk about the past, nor does he want to.
