What can individuals do to help avert the end of the world as we know it? With the counsel of his wife, director Erlend E. Mo moves his family with three children to Denmark’s Permatopia, an ecologically sustainable village that banks on renewable energy, a closed-loop economy, and self-sufficiency from its organic farm. But at that point, the project existed only on paper. For two years, the Mo family move like vagrants from one vacation rental to the next until they move into their row house – which turns out to be a permanent construction site. When on top of that the costs begin to explode, the family faces the question of whether to flee or to persist. Fluctuating between irony and despair, Mo presents a field study of a family whose members want to consider themselves pioneers of an environmentally-friendly life style. And of a couple that risks a marital crisis in service of the fight against climate catastrophe.
