During World War II, a Norwegian nurse named Vera Våge helps Vladimir, a Soviet prisoner of war, and falls passionately in love with him. After the war is over, she is sent to Moscow to work as a translator at the Norwegian embassy, where she re-connects with her beloved “Volodchik” and they continue their love affair. But such intimate relationships are strictly prohibited, and when the Russian secret service finds out about the affair, Vera is open to blackmail. Helplessly exposed to KGB pressure, she agrees to work for the Soviets as a secret agent. For the next 30 years, Vera lives a double life … Based on the true story of Norwegian spy Gunvor Galtung Haavik, director Knut Erik Jensen has created an artful cinematic construction. At the centre of the story, Ellen Dorrit Petersen convincingly embodies a woman who becomes guilty on account of the most innocent of motives.
