Soviet-occupied Kabul, 1989. 15-year-old Qodrat lives on the street. To escape the daily grind, he goes to the cinema as often as he can and watches brightly coloured Bollywood movies. He also makes money by selling cinema tickets at black market prices. Until the police arrest him and put him in an orphanage run by the Russians. Qodrat soon find friends there. But trouble starts brewing when the mujahideen come to power. To defend their home against them, the kids would have to be action heroes from a Bollywood movie … Shahrbanoo Sadat intersperses her realistic reminiscences of Afghan history with elements of popular Hindi cinema. They add a universal touch to this coming-of-age story focusing on the dreams and longings of the young protagonists.
