After winning her third Olympic gold medal, in Garmisch-Partenkirchen in 1936, Sonja Henie, then 24, sought a career in Hollywood. With the help of her father and her brother Leif, she gets lead roles from the start from producer Darryl Zanuck. A savvy businesswoman, she insists on control of the big ice skating numbers in her films, and chooses her own lovers with equal determination. But the radiant party girl has a dark side. She is greedy, self-indulgent, and manipulative with her assistant Connie. When she falls out with her brother, and loses control of her drinking, she makes a series of disastrous business decisions … Director Anne Sewitsky is less interested in absolute historical accuracy and more in presenting the Norwegian ice princess as a tough businesswoman – an icon of modernism, with a pop and rock soundtrack that drives her, and the narrative forwards.
