Sibel lives with her father Emin and her younger sister in a remote mountain village at the Black Sea. The 25-year-old woman provides for the family, works on the fields, goes hunting and is determined to kill the wolf that frightens everybody. Sibel has been mute since she was five, and the women avoid her because she is said to bring bad luck. Even her sister treats her badly. The only people giving her affection are old Narin and her father, with whom she communicates in an old whistling language. Her daily routine is upset when she discovers the injured deserter Ali on one of her forays through the forest and decides to help him. Because of this, she gets into open conflict with Emin and discovers a haunting village secret. But she also learns to look at herself with different eyes.
