Die Hälfte der Welt gehört uns - Als Frauen das Wahlrecht erkämpftenThe Victory of Women

Filmforum, Germany 2018, 102 Min., ger. OV

Their names were Marie Juchacz, Emmeline Pankhurst, Anita Augspurg, and Marguerite Durand. They were modern, passionate, and unconventional. And they fought in various ways in Germany, Britain, and France for women’s suffrage. They believed the vote was the key to freedom and equality for women, but also to a better world. To achieve their political goals, they worked their way through institutions, became media spinmeisters, set off bombs, went on hunger strikes, or died as martyrs. Their power, vitality, and energy provided inspiration, woke people up, and rocked the boat. Yet at best they were ignored or mocked, and at worst, imprisoned and tortured. But they would not be led astray, so strong was their will. They persevered. They refused to remain without rights any longer. They declined to remain second-class citizens any longer.
