Set in the 1950s, as countless freighters offload their wares in the harbour at Kotka. But the most valuable cargo is in the sailors’ personal luggage – LPs of the newest jazz, swing, and blues recordings. Rempo has already bought a lot of them, and now the enthusiastic amateur musician wants to open his own jazz club. He actually finds a barroom where he and his friends could perform. In order to take it over, he plunders the savings of his girlfriend Aila, who was planning to use the money to open a hairdressing salon. The diversion of the funds triggers a crisis in the relationship, but the club "Fennia" soon becomes Kotka’s coolest hotspot. Modelled on authentic happenings, the film tells the story of a ‘summer of jazz’ in north climes – with nostalgic flair and a rousing soundtrack.
