Ludwig Nissen, born the son of a rope maker in Husum in 1855, became wealthy and influential as a diamond merchant in New York City in the second half of the 20th century. The successful émigré advanced to become a member of the financial aristocracy. Nissen left the bulk of his fortune to his hometown Husum, laying the framework for the “Nordfriesland Museum. Nissenhaus Husum”.
