Created during the ice age, rich with flora and fauna, and shrouded in sagas and legends, Finland’s lakes have exerted the power of fascination since the beginning of time. In impressive images, “Tale of a Lake” brings us up close with this matchless cosmos from the air, from land, and under the surface of the water. The filmmakers patiently followed eagles and swans, bears and elk, otters and beavers with their camera; they dove into unknown underwater worlds, where we see sturgeon hatching, among other wonders. The resulting pictures are something very few people will ever have seen. Accompanied by a prize-winning soundtrack by Panu Aaltio, the film’s narration creates links between nature and Finnish mythology, a concept that was a sensation in the popular film “Tale of a Forest” (NFL 2012), produced by Marko Röhr.
