“I want to tie realism and poetry together,” says Norwegian director Nina Knag. Her film shows how a girl first becomes aware of both her mother’s despair and her poverty. Her father can’t be relied on, there’s not enough money, and a new pair of tights must be bought. In one single random moment, the meaning of poverty finally hits home.
