No African team has ever competed in the bandy world championships. That is, until Somalia entered the competition in 2014. Bandy is a traditional Nordic sport, played almost like ice hockey, but outdoors and with a ball. The team was made up of refugees living in the Swedish town of Borlänge and not one of them had ever even worn ice skates before. The bandy team is part of an ambitious integration project. Local businessman Patrik Andersson wanted to do finally take action against the persistent racism he saw. So he hired a bandy legend to coach and a Canadian pro to star, and enlisted a resolute restaurateur as a sponsor.
