The flight was OK, but otherwise Ari is not particularly thrilled. His mother has taken off for Africa, so Ari has to go live with his father, leaving Reykjavík for the remote fishing village in the West Fjords where the family once lived. Apart from one old girlfriend and his grandmother, he knows nobody there. Ari’s father is a man of few words and, since the divorce, he’s been fuelling his self-pity with alcohol. He also insists that Ari start's working in the local fish factory, which is slowly but clearly going downhill. When Ari tries to break out of the isolation he feels, he encounters a strange world of sex, drugs and violence. This gentle film uses only visual hints and small gestures by the actors to make its point, which makes the impact of this new life on Ari that much more clear.
