Vom Hören Sagen

Vom Hören SagenHearsay

Filmforum, Germany 2014, 65 Min.

The camera follows the back of the head of a young boy as his cart is pushed through the supermarket and the shelves of groceries flow past. This is the opening scene of Eibe Maleen Krebs’ film “Hearsay”. Ten congenitally blind people describe their concept of light and colour, what it must be like to drive a car or what their dreams “look” like. The film was shot largely in black-and-white and provides a new perspective on our normal way of seeing things. The filmmaker gives the documentary’s subjects the opportunity to visualise their dreams and stage their imaginings – whether it be conducting an orchestra, captaining a spaceship or listening to a violin while barefoot in a meadow. A fascinating experiment.
