Archaeologist Sigurd Svendsen is positive that there’s a secret hidden in the Oseberg Viking ship. The only clues are the runes carved into the wood of the ship. But he can’t convince anyone of his funders to finance further research. When Sigurd’s colleague and friend Allan finds the same runes in the very north of Norway, the two decide to do more research on their own. Determined to get to the bottom of this mystery, they embark on an expedition with Sigurd’s two children and Allan’s no-nonsense female assistant. Their travels bring the group into the no-man’s land between Norway and Russia, where no human has set foot for decades. And they discover the true meaning of the runes, revealing a secret that is more horrifying than their worst nightmares.
