Familjen Persson i främmande land

Familjen Persson i främmande landFamilie Persson im fremden Land / Displaced Perssons

Competition Documentaries, Sweden 2013, 85 Min., engl. ST

Per (Pelle) Persson left Sweden 40 years ago in his Land Rover and 10,000 kilometres away in Lahore, he found his true love, Shamim. Now the ex-patriot and his two daughters 24-year-old Zahra and Mia, who is 23, want to move to Sweden. They dream of another life, one where education is the norm and there is work. And above all, one where the two girls can walk the streets alone and drink beer. One day, the family gives up everything and ends up in a mobile home in Per’s old home town outside Hässleholm. But it turns out that (re)integrating into the Swedish welfare state has its own perils. The rules are different and the bureaucracy is rigorous. But with perseverance and a goodly dose of humour, the Perssons are able to gain a foothold in Sweden. A film about a warm-hearted family in a foreign country.
