Competition Documentaries, Sweden 2013, 52 Min.
The slogan on Liselotte Wajstedt's t-shirt reads: "The last one turns out the lights”. Soon the lights will be turned out in Kiruna. Large areas of the old mining town in North Sweden are already close to collapse. There are kilometres of galleries, and they are increasing in number. The explosions have damaged many of the buildings. Many citizens will have to leave their homes and move to newly built houses on the town outskirts. Liselotte Wajstedt left Kiruna in the early 90s. Puppet animations, photos and drawings give life to her memories of the town and the mine that dominated life therein throughout more than one hundred years. She also revives her own childhood and adolescence by interviewing fellow students from the 80s. Her brother is now a miner, as was her father.
