Poski poskea vastenMittsommernachtstango / Midsummer Night's Tango

Competition Documentaries, Germany / Finland / Argentina 2013, 82 Min.

Buenos Aires is the cradle of tango - according to the Argentinians. In reality, tango originates from Finland and is as Finnish as saunas and lakes - thus believe countless Finns. “Midsummer Night's Tango” is a humorous, exhilirating road movie that accompanies three Argentinian tango musicians through Finland. During their travels, they encounter Finnish tango authorities such as Reijo Taipale, Sanna Pietiäinen and M. A. Numminen, and they visit open air dancefloors where people dance to the melancholy music on midsummer nights. Director Viviane Blumenschein has made a loving music film full of great, dreamy images that recount the passion behind tango. But at its centre lies the music - Argentinian tango classics and long-forgotten Finnish hits.
