Competition Documentaries, Denmark / Sweden 2012, 90 Min.
Aboard a sailing ship, a crew of scientists and artists, including the Hamburg-based painter Daniel Richter, set out for the north-eastern coast of Greenland. It is an expedition into an unfamiliar, sometimes uncanny but almost always incredibly beautiful world that is threatened by the climate change: the Arctic Ocean. In their interdisciplinary research, the members of the expedition examine the geological past, the biological diversity and the aesthetic aura of this environment - and they develop ideas for its conservation. The audience is presented with the consequences of global warming by example of diving trips, onshore excursions and gliding flights, while statements and discussions divulge the minute chances of averting further effects. The film's magnificent nature footage certainly announces the end of this particular world.
