Inuk

Special, France / Greenland 2010, 92 Min., 12 years and older

Inuk’s father was a seal hunter and died in an accident on the ice. Since then Inuk has been living in Nuuk, the capital of Greenland, where he is neglected by his mother and grows increasingly out of control. The authorities send him to a home in Uummannaq, 500 kilometres north of the Arctic Circle, where the adolescents are familiarized with a traditional way of life by local huntsmen. Ikuma, a legendary bear hunter, reluctantly takes Inuk on a hunting expedition of several days’ duration, but the two of them converge as they cross the endless ice fields. Inuk learns how to ride a sled and hunts his first seal. But he is also confronted with the consequences of glacial melting, which are causing the hunter great problems. When a conflict arises, Inuk seriously endangers his own life… Extraordinary landscape images illustrate this tale of an unusual friendship that restores two people to their lives.
