Competition Documentaries, Iceland 2011, 63 Min.
Svarfadardalur is a small village in the north of Iceland. No more than 200 people live there and everyone knows everyone else. Everybody likes Baldur - he is in his mid-fourties, a quiet, serene man, and a horse breeder by profession. When the men's choir sings loud drinking songs, he keeps politely quiet, but he'll gladly take part in a game of Brús, the Icelandic version of Bridge, which includes wild chases, and he'll also go dancing in the community centre. Baldur never travelled, but a friend of his emigrated via Germany and the US to Hawaii. Now that Baldur wants to visit him, he is the talk of the town. He actually meets his friend in Hawaii, who has adapted well to his new home. “Baldur from Bakki” accompanies Baldur on his trip from his remote rural home out into the wide world. A moving film about a man, his dream, and long-standing friendship.
