Helmut Schulzeck married his wife Wangechi several years ago, and she brought four children into the marriage, as well as her large Kenyan family. However,Schulzeck had never asked her father, Papa Wangechi, for his permission, as would have befit the tribe's tradition. Not much of an issue by European standards, but a great mistake from a Kenyan point of view, entailing long-term repercussions. On a visit to the small Kikuyu village in the Kenyan highlands with his wife, Helmut Schulzeck is confronted with the family's - in their eyes very justifiably - disappointed expectations. But he also learns to subordinate himself into the family's everyday life and to partake in their fears and needs. His attempt at bridging the cultural differences are not always successful, but nevertheless very informative in a pleasant way. The filmmaker's conversations with his father-in-law, a humorous, retired teacher, are particularly entertaining.
