"TV princess and Barbie" are the role models that Paula and Nadine follow. Paula lives in the small Latvian town of Auce and Nadine lives in Tonsberg, Norway. They share very similar dreams for their futures: Both want to become actresses. And both care intensely about their outer appearance. Nadine spends one to two hours a day sitting in front of the mirror, but whereas her mother supports her in her quest for fashionable outfits, Paula's mother sets boundaries for her daughter - as a policeman's daughter she must not be too off-beat. So Paula's desire for high-heels is put on hold. The film depicts fashion and make-up as means for rehearsing adulthood. The director presents a sensitive portrait of her two charming protagonists who are at that precarious point between childhood and young adulthood at which the security of a sheltered life slowly makes way for the irritations of adolescence.
