After "Images from the Playground" (2009), Stig Björkman has once again exploited previously unreleased stock material that shows Swedish master director Ingmar Bergman at work behind the camera. The documentary is presented by Liv Ullman and concentrates on Bergman's later work, picking out his collaboration with some of the most legendary characters from the history of film: The difficult film shoots with Hollywood diva Ingrid Bergman, who returned to her Swedish homeland for "Autumn Sonata" in 1978. The well-established and hearty cooperation with Bergman's long-standing cameraman Sven Nykvist, which culminated with "Cries and Whispers" in 1973. The intense rehearsals with Liv Ullman and Erland Josphson for the legendary romantic dramas "Scenes from a Marriage" (1973) and "Saraband" (2003). Particularly curious: Ingmar Bergman in his Munich exile, working with German actor Robert Atzorn on the dark psychological drama "From the Life of the Marionettes" (1980). The sound track gives voice to many filmmakers for whom Bergman was a great rolemodel: Martin Scorsese, Woody Allen, Olivier Assayas, Lars von Trier and many more.
