The inner city of Bueos Aires – a man puts out a bag of rubbish. This is where the story of Laura von Bierbrauer's film about the work of Cartoneros begins. It is the name give to the more than 6,000 rubbish collectors who mark the image of the Argentinian metropolis since the economic collapse of 2001. They roam the streets at night with hand drawn carts, collecting sellable and reusable items from the rubbish left out by the residents. Whole families live off this trade, but their existence is threatened.
