Berik is blind and heavily deformed. He lives in Kazakhstan, where the Soviet Union conducted nuclear tests. Normally Berik never leaves his apartment. But when 11-year old Adil rings his doorbell because of a football, he helps the boy look for it. He does not not find the ball, but he does find a friend.
