Competition Documentaries, Sweden 2008, 100 Min.
A garden to mirror the entire world: director Mikael Kristersson has studied his own garden in Falsterbo, a little village in southern Sweden, with a camera over the course of an entire year. Whether hidden unter a blanket of snow, from which birds are picking seed, or under the gleaming summer sunshine – Kristersson sees his garden as a cosmos containing an abundance of flora and fauna, in the face of which human life suddenly appears somewhat insignificant. "Light Year" shows us the beauty of nature at our very doorstep, illustrated in wonderful images, hypnotic long takes and gliding camera movements. An exceptional, meditative documentary.
