Filmforum Schleswig-Holstein, Germany 2007, 85 Min.
In a part of town in which more than 20 percent of the population have no work, where people are standing in line to receive meals by social welfare groups and where the secondary modern schools are educating young people for a life in unemployment, filmmaker Nils-Holger Schomann accompanies four young girls from humble backgrounds on their everyday life at school, in their leisure time and at the rehearsals for a musical. Many questions revolve around the future and the chances of getting an apprenticeship. “But we’ll manage, you’ll see” is the chorus in one of the songs. The film documents how the rehearsals help increase the children’s self-confidence. Instead of resigning, they set themselves a goal and present the general public with their problems.
