Retrospective Children's and Youth, Poland/Denmark 1989, 88 Min.
This film portrays a real-life story that happened in Poland in 1985. When the father of 15-jährigen Crcés and his younger brother Jedrek loses his job as a history teacher on political grounds, the Kwiatkowski family falls on hard times. The father tries to eke a living by moonlighting. The only hope for the two sons is to get to the West and find work to send money home to their parents. Crcés’ girlfriend Elka is in on their plan to stow away under a truck heading across the border. Although they have to leave Elka behind when she is injured in a motorbike accident, the two boys do manage to get to Denmark, where they end up in a refugee camp. A Polish journalist helps them out, but their parents lose legal custody of their children.
