Children´s and Youth Films, Finland 2006, 83 Min., German commentary
Eleven-year-old Unna’s hospitalised grandfather tells her she is descended from shamans. With the aid of a magic drum, Unna travels into the past to find a herb that will cure her grandfather. In her journey into the Stone Age, 2300 BC, she has many an adventure. She discovers Stone Age life, gets caught up in a tribal feud and is captured along with Nuuk, a boy her own age. But Unna not only succeeds in reconciling the warring tribes – she also finds the herb and returns to the present to bring it to her grandfather. This gripping fantasy film imaginatively charts a child’s quest for her own roots, and paints a compelling portrait of ancient life in the forests of Scandinavia, with fabulous landscape shots before the dramatic backdrop of untouched nature.
