Lübeck, Oct. 28, 2019. Tomorrow marks the start of the 61st Nordische Filmtage Lübeck, which will present 196 different films in 283 screening over six days. The NFL is the largest festival on the European continent devoted to films from the northern and Baltic countries, and northern Germany. “We would like to thank our strong partners and loyal supporters who have worked with us to make the 61st Nordische Filmtage Lübeck possible”, says festival manager Florian Vollmers, “We have a broad base and work with a variety of fans of the festival, from international subsidy organisations, cultural foundations, and private donors, to with regional sponsors”. The Nordische Filmtage Lübeck is organised by the city of Lübeck and receives significant financial support from the Possehl Foundation. The festival’s other main financial supporters are the Schleswig-Holstein State Ministry of Education, Science, and Cultural Affairs, and the Gemeinnützige Sparkassenstiftung zu Lübeck (regional savings bank foundation). The primary sponsors of the NFL are the Radisson Blu Senator Hotel Lübeck, which is also the official festival hotel, and the CineStar Group, which owns two of the main festival cinemas – the CineStar Filmpalast Stadthalle and the CineStar Lübeck Filmhaus. Additional partners include STAWAG AG, the Lübeck Stadtwerke (public utilities company), LYNET AG, and the Friends of the Nordische Filmtage Lübeck. The festival is also supported by BAADER, Avis, CITTI-PARK, Femern A/S, Senger, CBB Software, and Niederegger. The NFL also receives financial support from Lübeck’s Wessel Foundation, the FFHSH including the Filmwerkstatt Kiel (Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein Film Commission), the Erika and Walther Jürgens Foundation, as well as both the German and the Schleswig-Holstein Federations of Film Clubs for Children and Young People.
Our media partners are broadcaster NDR and the Lübecker Nachrichten newspaper, who endow the NDR Film Prize and the LN Audience Prize, respectively. Additional awards are endowed by the Gemeinnützige Sparkassenstiftung, the Lübeck-Lauenburg Protestant-Lutheran parish, Baltic Films, the DGB German Trade Union Federation regional office North, the Friends of the Nordische Filmtage Lübeck, the CineStar Group, and the Radisson Blu Senator Hotel Lübeck. The festival opens this year on October 29 at 7 pm with the German premiere of the Swedish film “Swoon” (Eld och Lågor), with the two directors Måns Mårlind and Björn Stein, star Albin Grenholm, and producer Kristina Åberg (Atmo AB) in attendance.
