Lübeck, Nov. 2, 2017. The mood was congenial at yesterday’s launch of the 59th Nordic Film Days Lübeck (Nov. 1 – 5, 2017) as moderator Steen Lorenzen (RBB, Radio eins) invited the team from the Swedish opening night film “Beyond Dreams” (Dröm vidare / Träum’ weiter) onstage. Director Rojda Sekersöz, lead actor Evin Ahmad, and producer Annika Hellström (2afilm) from Sweden, and Monika Kijas from the German distributor eksystent, which is releasing the film in spring 2018, were excited by the film’s excellent reception and positive audience response.
The Nordic Film Days Lübeck, presented by the city of Lübeck, represents the largest festival in Europe outside Scandinavia showing films from the Nordic and Baltic countries, with a particular emphasis on current filmmaking in northern Germany. At yesterday’s opening night festivities, the festival juries were also introduced, including actors Almila Bagriacik and Gro Swantje Kohlhof, as well as director Miguel Alexandre.
Celebrity guests on the red carpet at the CineStar Filmpalast Stadthalle included Dr Oliver Grundei, representing the Schleswig-Holstein ministry of science and culture, Lübeck’s mayor Bernd Saxe, lord mayor Gabriele Schopenhauer, the city’s senator for culture, education, and schools Kathrin Weiher, as well as the director of the Norddeutscher Rundfunk broadcaster Lutz Marmor. Also on hand were consular representatives from Denmark and Norway. Following the screening, the 520 invited guests and the film crew moved to Lübeck Cathedral for an opening night reception that included a swimming pool and colourful giveaways from “Beyond Dreams”.
The 59th Nordic Film Days Lübeck will show a total of 195 films in the festival running until November 5, 2017.In addition to filmmakers and directors, many of the actors in the films will be in town to present their work to the audiences of film fans. Among them will be directors Lars Jessen, Christian Theede, Jens Dahl, Zaida Bergroth, Jacob Bitsch, Helena Wittmann, Rasmus Gerlach, Agneta Fagerström-Olsen, Hafsteinn Gunnar Sigurdsson, Petter Lennstrat, Mads Erichsen, Bragi Thór Hinriksson, Karla von Bengtson, Henrik Martin Dahlsbakken, Iram Haq and Birgitte Stærmose, as well as actors Doris Kunstmann, Eili Harboe, Can Demirtas, Ardalan Esmaili and Benjamin Helstad. Jury selections for the eight film prizes awarded in the festival (total prize money 40,000 euros) will be announced on November 5th in the Theater Lübeck during the 59th Nordic Film Days awards gala
