NDR Television Airs Scandinavian Series of Prize-winning Films from the Nordic Film Days Lübeck

Lübeck, Oct. 31, 2017. In November, the Nordic Film Days Lübeck and their long-term media partner NDR will present a total of 11 Scandinavian classics on public television. On nine evenings from November 4 through December 3, 2017, fans of Scandinavian cinema and NDR viewers will be treated to film and television productions including prize-winning works such as "Heartstone" (Hjartasteinn / Herzstein), which was shown at the 58th Nordic Film Days Lübeck in 2016. Many of the other films to be aired have also been shown at the Nordic Film Days Lübeck. The broadcasts range from suspenseful thrillers and crime series, to touching dramas.

The series kicks off on NDR television on Saturday, November 4, 2017 with “Scandinavian thriller night”. At 11:25 pm, viewers can watch "Revenge" (Hevn / Rache), directed by Kjersti Steinsbø. In the nail-biting thriller, which was shown as part of the Competition section at the 58th Nordic Film Days Lübeck in 2016, a travel journalist says she is writing an article about hotel manager Morten, but the two are bound together by a terrible crime in the past – a ruthless game of revenge and guilt unfolds against stunning Norwegian scenery. Immediately following that, at 1:10 am, NDR will show “The White Lioness” (Den vita lejoninna / Die weisse Löwin), featuring detective Wallander in a film by Pelle Berglund, which was shown in 2000 at the Nordic Film Days. Wallander has to prevent an assassination attempt on Nelson Mandela to ensure South Africa’s peaceful transition from apartheid to democracy. The excitement continues at 2:50 am with the Icelandic film “Reykjavik – Rotterdam” (Reykjavik – Rotterdam: Tödliche Lieferung), directed by Oskar Jonasson, which was shown in 2009 in Competition at the 51st Nordic Film Days Lübeck

One of the highlights of the NDR programme is the German TV premiere of Iceland’s “Heartstone” (Hjartasteinn / Herzstein) on Monday, November 6 at 11:15 pm. This drama by Guðmundur Arnar Guðmundsson won the NDR Film Prize worth 12,500 euros at the last Nordic Film Days Lübeck, and went on to win awards at numerous other festivals. It’s the story of the relationship between two young boys that changes forever one summer. A drama about growing up in a village where being different is a burden.

The 2014 NDR Film Prize winner, "Life in a Fishbowl" (Vonarstræti / Strasse der Hoffnung) will be shown on Monday, November 20 at 11:15 pm. Before that, NDR will air two Danish films dealing with human extremes.  “When Animals Dream” (Når dyrene drømmer) with Lars Mikkelsen, on November 5 at 12:05 am, and “The Hour of the Lynx” (I lossens time / In der Stunde des Luchses) on November 12, also at 12:05 am. The thriller “Glass Dolls” (Glassdukkene / Glaspuppen) by Nils Gaup will celebrate its German free-TV premiere on Monday, November 13 on NDR. The director’s film “Pathfinder" was nominated for an Oscar.

To close out the series, episodes from the Swedish crime series about Maria Wern and the Gotland police will be shown on November 19 and 26 at 12:05 am, and on December 3 at 12:05 am, Swedish detective Beck will be on air.
