Prominent film industry talents on the NDR Film Prize and Children’s and Youth Film Prize juries include Victoria Trauttmansdorff, Niklas Osterloh, Anton Spieker and Bernd Sahling

Lübeck, Oct. 29, 2014. Since 1990, the Nordic Film Days Lübeck NDR Film Prize, endowed with € 12,500, has been awarded to a feature in competition distinguished by “artistic excellence”. The jury for this year’s 56th festival (Oct. 29 – Nov. 2) comprises leading filmmaking talents from both sides of the camera. Diana Schulte-Kellinghaus, commissioning editor for the narrative division of NDR television and previous deputy managing director of the children’s channel Kinderkanal, is joined on the jury by actress Victoria Trauttmansdorff (who can be seen in the NFL Filmforum in “Patong Girl” and onstage as the “General” in “Platonow” at Hamburg’s Thalia Theater). Another prominent member of the jury is actor and Lübeck native Niklas Osterloh, currently playing Robin Mertens in the series “Rote Rosen” and veteran of small screen movies and series such as “Liebe deinen Feind”, “Morden im Norden” and “Tatort”. Also on the jury is film and television producer Christoph Thoke (Mogador Film), who co-produced the 2013 Icelandic Oscar submission “Of Horses and Men” (dir: Benedikt Erlingsson), which opened the 2013 NFL. The panel is rounded out with Finnish-German director and screenwriter Kirsi Liimatainen (“Fortress”, “Sonja”), who followed up an acting career in her native Finland with a degree in directing from the Potsdam film school and has already received numerous awards for her films. She is currently working on a project titled “The Scream of the Butterfly”.

This year’s NFL competition comprises 18 current films from Scandinavian and Baltic countries. The jury’s selection for the festival’s best-endowed award, the “NDR Film Prize”, will be announced on Saturday, November 1, 2014 at the Film Prize Gala. The master of ceremonies for the event will once again be NDR entertainer Yared Dibaba.

The jury for the “Children’s and Youth” section of the festival is also studded with notable names. Among them is Bernd Sahling, director of successful films for children and young adults, who won the German film prize for “The Blind Flyers” and has written and directed numerous shorts and documentaries. He is joined on the judging panel by young actor Anton Spieker, currently appearing in this year’s NFL Filmforum as the leading character Martin in “Rough Road Ahead” (dir: Christian Frosch). Mr. Spieker has acted in a variety of film, TV and theatre productions, including the film version of the bestselling German book “Crime and Guilt” by Ferdinand von Schirach. The third member of the jury is Katrin Hoffmann, director of the children’s film section of the Munich film festival. Ms. Hoffman is also a contributing writer for publications such as epd-FILM, kinofenster.de and the German encyclopaedia of films for children and young adults, and project director of the children’s film tour “KidsFilm”.

Additional prizes to be awarded in the competition section include the “Lübecker Nachrichten Audience Prize”, the “Baltic Film Prize” for an outstanding feature from the Nordic countries and the “Interfilm Church Film Prize”. The “Documentary Film Prize of the Lübeck Trade Unions” goes to a documentary that particularly promotes social issues and the “CineStar Prize”, to be awarded this year for the third time, to the best short film in the Filmforum section.
