55. Nordic Film Days Lübeck: Multiple-Award-Winning Film and Audience Favourite Now Released in the Cinema

Lübeck, 20. March 2013 – This Thursday, 21. March 2013, sees the German cinema release of KON-TIKI, the opening film and one of the audience favourites at last year’s Nordic Film Days Lübeck. This spectacular adventure film by the successful directors Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg, about scientist and adventurer Thor Heyerdahl’s expedition on a balsa wood raft, is Norway’s most expensive film production to date and features co-production partners from Germany, Sweden, Denmark and Great Britain. The film was nominated for this year’s Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. DCM is co-producer and German distributor.

The following week sees the release of another Scandinavian film highlight and three-time prize winner at last year’s festival (ex aequo NDR Film Prize, Audience Prize of the Lübecker Nachrichten and Baltic Film Prize) by Wildbunch on 28. March 2013. THE HUNT (Jagten) is a fulminant directing effort by the famous Danish director Thomas Vinterberg, starring Mads Mikkelsen as Lucas, a nursery school teacher who faces false accusations and fights for his reputation and his existence within the community. At the 2012 Cannes film festival, Mikkelsen was awarded the prize for “Best Male Actor” for this exceptional acting performance.

“I am very pleased to see these outstanding films from last year’s festival programme now being released in German cinemas and I am positive that they will draw much attention, just as they were met with great enthusiasm by our own audience,” says Linde Fröhlich, Artistic Director of Nordic Film Days Lübeck. “These films represent the high standards of Nordic-Scandinavian cinema and filmmaking, for which Nordic Film Days Lübeck annually provides an internationally recognized platform in Germany.”

Another German cinema release to look forward to is LIFE IS NOT FOR COWARDS by André Erkau on 18. April 2013, distributed by NFP marketing & distribution*. The light-hearted, humorous tragicomedy starring Wotan Wilke Möhring was presented in the “Filmforum” at last year’s 54. Nordic Film Days in Lübeck.
