Conclusion of 54. Nordic Film Days Lübeck: An Enthusiastic Audience, Numerous Guests and a Triple Winner

The two directors of this year’s Nordic Film Days Lübeck, Linde Fröhlich (Artistic Director) and Christian Modersbach (Festival Manager) are very content with the 54. edition of the festival, which ended on Sunday, November 4th. Boasting an audience of around 27,500, the participation at Nordic Film Days Lübeck had increased slightly since last year. The year 2012 thus proved once more that there is a very enthusiastic and receptive audience for films from Scandinavia, the Baltic States and northern Germany.

Linde Fröhlich: “The festival was characterized by a very powerful film programme, on top of which we were able to welcome countless guests to introduce the individual films and have intense audience discussions with after the screenings. We are particularly happy that the triple winner Thomas Vinterberg and the award-winning Gabriela Pichler were able to attend the award presentation in Lübeck at such short notice. The wonderful Film Prize Night aptly mirrored the variety of the countries and personalities presented throughout the festival. I was also especially pleased that films which had previously been introduced as projects at the festival and had found co-production partners here, have since been completed and were now presented in Lübeck, such as “Two Lives” by Georg Maas.”

Altogether 160 film makers and film team members attended this year’s festival edition in Lübeck. Round about 800 trade professionals and journalists had the opportunity of selecting individual films for viewing from the 149 festival contributions. The main award winner Thomas Vinterberg was joined by his young star Lasse Fogelstrøm as he was called on stage three times to receive prizes for his film “The Hunt/Jagten”. He was awarded the NDR Film Prize (ex aequo with Gabriela Pichler for “Eat Sleep Die/Äta Sova Dö”), as well as the Audience Prize of the “Lübecker Nachrichten” and the Baltic Film Prize.

Festival Manager Christian Modersbach draws a positive conclusion regarding the 54. Nordic Film Days: “We have received very positive feedback from the audience and the trade professionals as to both the film presentations and the support programme. Our latest projects, such as the “Young Video Journalists”, the Festival-BOX and the VoD screening possibilities were very well received by all participants, and the youngsters have created some great films. The special events, such as the church screenings of the Retrospective section, were also very well received. Our cooperation partners and ourselves are taking this as an incentive to develop and realize further new ideas for 2013.”

As media partners, NDR and Lübecker Nachrichten had once again accompanied the festival with extensive news coverage. The 55. Nordic Film Days Lübeck will take place in 2013 from 30. October to 3. November.
