Opening Film Kon-Tiki and its Cast Enthuse Audience

Lübeck, 01.11.12 – The red carpet was rolled out in Lübeck at yesterday’s opening of the 54. Nordic Film Days, Europe’s largest festival for films from Scandinavia, the Baltic region and northern Germany, where a radiant “Kon-Tiki” film team presented the English-language world premiere of their film. The five actors Pål Sverre Hagen – starring as Thor Heyerdahl in the film, Agnes Kittelsen, Odd-Magnus Williamson, Tobias Santelmann and Jakob Oftebro were in good spirits at the prior press conference, where they announced that they would like to try out a “marzipan cocktail” while visiting the festival in the Hanseatic City. The international team was joined by the Norwegian producer Aage Aaberge of Nordisk Film and the German co-producer Dario Suter of dcm productionsas they received thundering applause by the premiere audience in Lübeck’s Kolosseum. Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Great Britain and Germany all participated in the realization of “Kon-Tiki”, which dcm will release in German cinemas in March 2013.

Together with the festival’s organizers Linde Fröhlich (Artistic Director) and Christian Modersbach (Festival Manager), presenter Steen Bille (Danish Film Institute) welcomed the premiere audience, putting them into good humour from the very first instance. He presented this year’s NDR Film Prize Jury, comprised of the actor Florian Lukas, the directors Maria Solrun and Anno Saul, the journalist Volker Behrens, and the NDR editor Sabine Holtgreve, as well as the remaining six juries at Nordic Film Days.

The 500 invited guests at the premiere included Anke Spoorendonk, Schleswig-Holstein’s Minister for Justice, Culture and European Affairs, alongside consular representatives of the Scandinavian states. The audience also included the Swedish director Jan Troell and his daughter Yoanna, with scriptwriter and author Klaus Rifbjerg for the film “The Last Sentence”, the filmmaker Saara Cantell, also partaking in the competition in Lübeck with “Stars Above”, as well as the Icelandic directing duo Bragi Thór Hinriksson and Sverrir Thór Sverrisson with their film “The Magic Wardrobe” in the “Films for Young Viewers” section.

From 31. October to 4. November, the 54. Nordic Film Days Lübeck are introducing 149 films from 10 countries. Many filmmakers are travelling to the Hanseatic City, often in the company of their actors, to present their films to the festival audience in person. On Saturday, 3. November 2012, the eight awards of Nordic Film Days are presented during the Film Prize Night at Theater Lübeck.
