Inhalt/ Summary

Ein alter Kabuki-Spieler sagte einmal: „Ich kann einem jungen Schauspieler beibringen, mit welcher Geste man auf den Mond deutet. Alles andere liegt bei ihm.“ Yoshi Oida fügt dem Zitat hinzu: „Für mich ist es ohne Belang, ob den Zuschauern nach der Vorstellung noch in Erinnerung ist, wie schön die Geste war, mich interessiert nur eins: Haben Sie den Mond gesehen?“ Ausgebildet im traditionellen Noh-Theater, interessierte sich der japanische Schauspieler Yoshi Oida bald für die Avantgarde seines Landes und begann seine Zusammenarbeit mit dem Dramatiker Yukio Mishima. Vor 30 Jahren ging Yoshi Oida zu Peter Brook nach Paris und spielte in dessen Internationaler Theatergruppe auf den verschiedensten Bühnen der Welt, bis er mit eigenen Inszenierungen an die Öffentlichkeit trat und als Lehrer tätig wurde. Der Film folgt Yoshi Oidas eigenwilliger Verknüpfung von östlicher und westlicher Theaterauffassung und stellt einen beeindruckenden Menschen und Künstler vor. 

An old kabuki actor once said: "I can show a young actor what gesture to use when pointing to the moon. Everything else lies in his own hands." Yoshi Oida adds to the quotation: "For me it does not matter at all whether after the performance the viewer remembers how beautiful the gesture was, I am only interested in one thing: did you see the moon?" Trained in traditional Noh theatre, the Japanese actor Yoshi Oida soon began to take an interest in the avantgarde of his country, and so began working together with the dramatist Yukio Mishima. 30 years ago, Yoshi Oida went to Peter Brook in Paris, acting on a wide variety of world stages as a member of his international theatre group, until he attempted his own public productions and became a teacher himself. The film follows Yoshi Oida's very unconventional combination of the eastern and the westernconcepts of theatre, and introduces the viewers to an impressive personality and artist.

Claudia Willke, geboren 1953, studierte Literatur- und Politikwissenschaften in Tübingen und Visuelle Kommunikation an der Hochschule für bildende Künste in Hamburg. Sie war Gründungsmitglied und langjährige Mitarbeiterin des Frauenmedienzentrums "Bildwechsel" und lebt heute als freie Filmemacherin und Autorin in Hamburg. 

Claudia Willke, born in 1953, studied literature and politics in Tübingen and visual communication at the College of Fine Arts in Hamburg. She was a founding member of the women's media centre "Bildwechsel", where she worked for many years. Today she lives and works as a freelance film-maker and author in Hamburg.
