Alle möglichen Leute reisen nach Tysfjord in Nordnorwegen: kranke Menschen, New-Age-Anhänger, Wissenschaftler, Fotografen. Aber sie haben eines gemeinsam. Sie wollen zu den wilden Killerwalen. Die Einheimischen können sich nur über das Spektakel amüsieren, das jeden Herbst stattfindet. Eine sympathische und poetische Dokumentation, die die Unterschiede zwischen den Menschen vom Tysfjord und den Wal-Touristen aufzeigt. "Calling Killerwhales" ist der Abschlußfilm von Benedicte Orvung am Dramatiska Institutet.

Sick people, New Age devotees, scientists, photographers - all kinds of different people travel to Tysfjord in the north of Norway, all for the same purpose: to see the wild killerwhales. The locals can only shake their heads in amusement at the spectacle that takes place every fall. A lyric and sympathetic documentary on the differences between the inhabitants of Tysfjord and the whale-watching tourists. "Calling Killerwhales" was Benedicte Orvung's graduating film at Dramatiska Institutet.

Regisseurin Benedicte Orvung, geboren 1965 in der Nähe des Nordkaps, wuchs bis 1975 in Paris auf, kehrte dann nach Norwegen zurück. Bereits seit ihrer Kindheit interessierte sie sich für Theater und Kino. Viele Jahre lang arbeitete sie als Fotografin. Von 1992 bis 1994 erhielt sie ihre Ausbildung an der Osloer Film- und Fernseh-Akademie, von 1994 bis 1998 besuchte sie das Dramatiska Institutet. Seit 1993 dreht Benedicte Orvung Dokumentarfilme.

Director Benedicte Orvung, born in 1965 near the North Cape, grew up in Paris until returning to Norway in 1975. She has been interested in film and theatre since an early age, and worked as a photographer for four years. She attended the Film and Television Academy in Oslo from 1992 to 1994, and the Dramatiska Institutetet from 1994 to 1998. Orvung has been making documentaries since 1993.
