Marko Röhr und sein Kamerateam entführen das Publikum in eine der letzten unerforschten Ecken Europas: die Unterwasser-Welt von Island. Dieses Land der Sagen wird zum erstenmal in dieser Form filmisch dokumentiert. Es geht unter Eisbergen hindurch direkt zu den sprudelnden Wassern eines Geysirs. Es entstanden Aufnahmen unmittelbar an den Bruchkanten, wo die Kontinentalplatten von Amerika und Europa aufeinandertreffen, und in den starken Strömungen des Atlantiks, die Island ein so reiches maritimes Leben bescheren. Der Film ist eine Symphonie von Bildern und Tönen. Die Erzählung schrieb Antti Tuuri, der die alten Sagas Islands studierte. Zum Soundtrack steuerte Islands Superstar Björk Musik bei.

Marko Röhr and his camera team take viewers to one of the last unexplored corners of Europe: the underwater world of Iceland. This is the first time the country of sagas will be documented in this way. The camera takes us under icebergs and to the bubbling waters of the geysirs, shows the deep fissures where the continental plates of America and Europe meet and explores the strong currents of the Atlantic that bring Iceland such an abundant maritime life. The film is a symphony of images and sounds. Antti Tuuri, who has studied the old Icelandic sagas, wrote the narrative. Icelandís superstar Björk contributed to the soundtrack.

Regisseur Marko Röhr, Jahrgang 1961, studierte an der Wirtschaftsschule Helsinki und konzentrierte sich dabei auf Strategien für das Wirtschaftsmanagement und ökonomische Strukturen der internationalen und nationalen Filmindustrie. Seit zehn Jahren widmet sich Röhr der Produktion von Spiel- und Dokumentarfilmen.
Marko Röhr Productions hat sich seit Jahren auf Unterwasserfilme spezialisiert und gilt als führendes Filmteam für arktische Gewässer. Für ihre Arbeit entwickelte es ein einzigartiges Beleuchtungssystem, das Aufnahmen unter extremsten Bedingungen ermöglicht.

Director Marko Röhr, born in 1961, studied at the School of Economics in Helsinki, concentrating on management strategies and the economic structures of the international and national film industry. For ten years Röhr has been involved in the production of feature films and documentaries.
For years Marko Röhr Productions has specialized in underwater films and is considered the leading team for the arctic waters. They developed a unique lighting system that allows them to film under extremely low-light conditions.
